Mailchimp no longer integrating with Shopify

Business owners received the following:

Subject : The Mailchimp for Shopify Integration is No Longer Available for New Downloads

So what does this mean for you as a business owner? If you are a Shopify store owner and use Mailchimp as your e-mail marketing provider (that means, where you host your subscriber mailing list), then you will need to find some alternatives.

You have some options here:

  1. Stop using Shopify (highly NOT recommended, don’t you do it)

  2. Stop using Mailchimp (you could use a competitor but if you like Mailchimp, especially it’s low price point, this wouldn’t be wise either)

  3. FIND A WAY TO KEEP GAINING SUBSCRIBERS FOR YOUR SHOPIFY STORE, AND KEEP HOSTING THEM WITHIN MAILCHIMP (nice, let’s show you how one might do that)

Using Mailchimp while still having a Shopify store

Some questions that might come up:

  • How long do you have until the Mailchimp integration is removed from Shopify? May 12, 2019 (this is when the data sharing provisions of Shopify’s new terms take effect)

  • Can I still add my customers’ emails directly within Shopify (through orders) after this change? Not through Mailchimp directly; you’ll need to use a third-party option to do this or…

Use the Embed Form option within Mailchimp

Super simple, just instead of having to download a plugin or miss out on emails entirely, just embed the Mailchimp signup form in your Shopify store. This is how you do it:

  1. Login to Mailchimp and go to your “Audiences” (fka “Lists”) > Manage Audiences > Signup Forms

  2. Embedded Forms > Choose the form that’s best for your website and aesthetic (we suggest “Classic” - will give you the most options, especially if you have more than 1 field - or “Condensed” - just the email address) > Copy the code

  3. Go to your website to wherever you want the form (ie. your website footer) and paste into your theme code

Now you can keep building your e-mail list in Mailchimp through your e-commerce Shopify store.
